Scholastic Book Club Referral program
Sep. 27th, 2013 11:52 amShameless plug:
It turns out to be really easy to administer the Scholastic Reading Club program. If your kids' classroom doesn't already have the program, most teachers are receptive to you saying, "Can I hand out these flyers & books and run this program for your classroom?" They have reading flyers even for the pre-school level now.
If you want to do it at your school, both you and I will get 1000 bonus points (as opposed to the standard 250) after your first order of $25 if you use the coupon code 30015 at checkout, and enter my teacher number #1773743032.
I started doing this program with the low-income kids we tutor at Santa Maria Urban Ministries last spring -- we had a grant and were able to let each kid order $12 in books at the end of the school year for summer reading. I expanded the program to include my children's classroom, so that the books my kids' friends paid for earned free books for the kids at SMUM. In September, they earned 10,000 bonus points, which was enough to give $7 of free books to all the kids at Santa Maria with some left over. This won't happen every month though, so I'm looking for more sources of bonus points to keep the program going. The lowest-hanging fruit is referral bonuses.
I loved the book club program when I was a kid. My mom let me pick out a book every month and I was always excited to get them and read them. There's something special about being able to pick out your own book. As a parent, I like the selection of pre-picked "good" books -- new ones as well as old classics -- and the prices compare favorably to Amazon. Of the 4 books I spot-checked to compare prices, all were lower from Scholastic.
Feel free to pass this on to friends with children.
