Shoes on all by himself!
Nov. 21st, 2006 12:10 amPeter put his star shoes on all by himself today! These are the simplest form of velcro shoes, but I'm still very proud of him. We've been working on it for a few weeks now. As he was doing it, he talked to himself. "Open up the shoe. Pull up the tongue. Put in your foot." etc. I gave him a very small amount of verbal prompting to help him get the correct foot for each shoe.
He still talks of himself in the 3rd person, but this is because we've always talked that way to him. (one of my books said it's easier for children to learn about their world that way -- i.e. I'd say "Peter is drinking milk. Mommy is drinking milk too." instead of "You are drinking milk. I am drinking milk too."
Now I think he has enough of a grasp of the English language to switch over, but both Jon and I are having trouble making the switch.
