Cutting back...
Aug. 20th, 2012 01:31 pmRecently a large chapter in my church life for which I held responsibilities has come to a close, and I decided that I really needed to cut back my time spent on church activities. Do only the minimum. Be one of those people who participates in church life by just showing up. Then I thought about what my minimum was (including drive time):
* 3 hrs Sunday mornings, including teaching Godly Play, prep, and counting
* 3 hrs Tuesdays for covenant group, where my prayer and worship time happens. This I do for me.
* 2 hrs Wednesday nights for Wed. night dinner, which doesn't really count because I get to see my friends and don't have to cook or clean up, so it doesn't cost me time to go.
* 3 hrs Thursday afternoons to tutor low income kids. Just because I feel overwhelmed is no reason to throw them out on the street. It's good for my kids too to form relationships with other kids of very different backgrounds.
Hmmm. 11 hrs weekly is my "minimum" representing a near 50% or greater pull back from my current level of activity. Writing it out at least gives me some perspective. It's ok to "only" do that much.
