We had a wonderful trip to Mudd's reunion. Most of my good friends were there. I started the CS major a year late so many of my closest friends were one year behind me. Their 10th is my 11th and Jon's 15th, so this was a great year to go. There are only a few people from my class year that I really want to see, but luckily they live close by and also came for the reunion.

The reunion just felt comfortable. It was so nice to slip into conversations with old friends as if school ended yesterday.
Jon came with questions for our resident string theorist, [livejournal.com profile] steuard. I missed out on some of it while I was upstairs with the baby. When I asked how the string theory conversation went, he said that they didn't talk much about string theory, and then rattled off half a dozen other modern physics topics.

I finally met [livejournal.com profile] schr0dinger and he is as cute as his parents make him out to be.

I got to talking some finance with Matt and Carolyn, but there's still more of that conversation to have. It was also fun to spend 6 hours in the car with [livejournal.com profile] patrissimo on the way down. Seasteading doesn't sound like it's for me, but it sounds like Patri's following his dreams and having fun with it so I wish him all the best.

The time was too short. I spent most of it with my best friends, even though it would have been nice to also renew friendships with others from school.

Peter enjoyed himself so much that he tells us frequently he wants to go back to Harvey Mudd college. I bought him a t-ball set and we played a fair amount on the lawn and in the Linde Activity center. He played over 3 hours of foosball and air hockey each afternoon while we hung out with friends.

The drive up and back left a bit to be desired. Our plan was to leave at dinner time (6pm), have the kids eat in the car and then fall asleep around bedtime (8 or 9) then arrive between midnight and 1am. We left our house at 6:15 and arrived at 1am, but the sleeping didn't happen as intended. Amber stayed awake until almost 11, and was quite unhappy between 9 and 11 pm. Peter fell asleep from 7-9pm, then remained grumpy until 11pm.

On the way home we decided that planning for the kids to nap in the car just didn't work, so we left for home around 11:30am after a large brunch. Both kids were asleep from 12-1:30, then both woke up grumpy. At 3 we stopped for lunch. Amber took a second half hour nap, and Peter fell asleep when we were 5 miles from home. We got home around 8:00pm and Peter didn't transfer. I read his stories then told Jon that I *had*to* sleep around 9 -- Peter still wanted more food. Jon put the kids to bed.

I woke around 11 to puke my guts out. I haven't vomited so hard or so much in... nearly as long as I can remember. The last thing I'd had to eat had been a Snickers around 5pm and a great steak at Harris Ranch at 3pm. The volume was tremendous and the acid coming up at the end burned my throat. At least I assume that's why my throat hurts now. Lesser degrees of egress out both ends happened about every two hours all night long, ending around 6am.

All day today I've had no energy. I have been keeping water down just fine, but every time I try solids after a few tablespoons my body says, "are you sure you want to do that?" so I'm mostly just hungry and weak now, but primarily recovered. Thanks for all the well wishes after my other post. I'm glad no one else got this and glad it was over quickly.

The trip to Mudd was a test to see how the kids would do for long periods of time in the car, and we've decided to fly for our summer vaction to my brother's family, 15 hours away by car.

Let the indoctrination begin!! :) Seriously, Drew says his dad (HMC '70) wore a Mudd shirt a lot when they were doing fun stuff. So Drew had this subconscious connection between fun stuff and Mudd.

I'm glad you had fun at the reunion! I'm hoping to get there next year.

well done
