Mom's night out and friendship
Aug. 15th, 2007 02:06 pmMom's night out last night was wonderful! 3 1/2 hours away from both kids, time alone by myself in the car on the way there and back, and time with my friends at the restaurant. Of the 15 people who started out in my mom's group 2 1/2 years ago, 10 made it last night. And of those 15, one has moved to Arizona, one to the Netherlands, one dropped out when the kids were 5 months old, and another at 1 year. Only one still active mom didn't make it last night.
In reflection on the way home I realized that these women have become my friends. Real friends. There's nobody I don't like and everybody that I do. We went around and everyone gave updates about their lives and I cared about all of them.
The mom's group friends aren't necessarily people I would have chosen for friends, and talking with them alone doesn't fill all my needs for adult conversation, but through time and shared experience they've become friends anyway. I like that.
