Unsolicited phone calls

I strongly dislike unsolicited phone calls. Despite joining the "National Do Not Call Registry" about a year ago, the volume does not appear to have decreased. We get 3-5 calls daily.

This morning they started at 6:30am (my alarm goes off at 7:20am). I was Not Pleased.

We also get the same number of unsolicited phone calls per day, despite being on as many Do Not Call lists as we can. It's part of the cost for having a land line these days; I get perhaps one unsolicited call per week on my mobile phone. I think there are tougher laws protecting mobile phone numbers from robocalls and advertising -- at least right now.

I realize this isn't an option for people who regularly *use* their landline, but we just always let our go to the answering machine (which is set to pick up on ring #2)... and most robo-calls are programmed not to even talk to machines so there's nothing to delete.

(You may be wondering then why we even have one - mainly it's used for the monitored security system, which we mostly got to have fire coverage for the cats when we're away. But on the extremely rare occasion someone we care about actually calls us on it, we get the message off the machine.)
