It's 2 am, and I'm pleased to report that I've just filed my state sales taxes. The on-line form is easier than the paper one, or maybe I've just done it enough years now that I know how to find the numbers I need.
I spent about 5 hours solid on it, plus one or two of prep work this afternoon. The main delay was trying to find the wording for "Electronic Transfer of Tangible Personal Property."
I've used this exemption for the last several years, but it didn't come up in the on-line drop-down box, so I spent several hours on the BOE website looking for what to call it. It knocks my taxes down from $312 to $43, so it was worth finding. I'm still not positive I've got it right, because the document I found was dated 2000, but I couldn't find anything negating it either, and eventually I've just got to sleep.
Every time I do my taxes I wonder why I bother to have a business. It's basically volunteer work with extra overhead.
