My refrigerator died. It had been going down for about a month. The first Sears tech arrived July 9th, after a week wait. The part he ordered was installed July 16th. That didn't fix it, and the third visit was yesterday, July 22nd. Last night most of the ice melted in the ice dispenser and leaked all over. They're scheduled to come back next Monday.
I let the kids eat Haagen Daas bars and soupy ice cream for snack this afternoon, and threw out all the food this evening. Milk hadn't been staying good for more than two days.
The fridge is covered by a repair protection agreement that covers all our major appliances, but I didn't think my baby fridge, at just 2 1/2 years old, would be the one to need it. Our protection agreement does not apparently cover a rental fridge until they fix it. It does cover $200 of spoiled food, for which I have put in a claim.
Mostly I am sad because I loved that fridge. I can't find the post, but I was sure I had posted pictures of our old and new fridge when we acquired this one. Sometimes when I buy something large, I have buyer's remorse, but not for the fridge.
Every day when I'd walk into the kitchen, open it up, and I'd feel happy that I could easily fit 6 gallons of milk and 2 weeks of leftovers without breaking a sweat. It was a highlight of my morning.
Oh well. I cleared out the fudge and ate it this evening. I'll turn the fridge off soon and we'll live with the dorm-sized bar fridge we have upstairs for the next week.
Mmmm. Fudge. I hope the fridge can be fixed, or at least replaced with a similar model.
