Live Journal has been bought out by another company that is doing bad things with advertising and tracking user behavior. There's a boycott to protest -- don't even read other's blogs for those 24 hrs. (It's GMT because many LJ users are Russian.)
I don't know how effective it will be, but I'm participating. I think it's the first time in my life I've actively participated in a boycott (as opposed to not buying something I wouldn't have bought anyway.) I have houseguests this weekend, so I'll likely be off LJ all weekend. I'm changing my home page for the duration so I don't accidently open up a browser to LJ.
I really like the LJ format, which is why I was willing to spend $20 on a paid account, so if any of my friends has a good site that's similar to ditch to, let me know. The problem is, I came here because of friends, and many of my RL friends are here too, so I want everybody to ditch to the same alternate place. (Not Facebook--it's even worse privacy-wise. I don't know about MySpace.)
